View from the rim of the Caldeirão in NW direction to Cabeço do Canto (347 m), overgrown with laurel forest. The Capelinhos peninsula at the W tip of the island is shown in the background. It formed in 1957 and 1958 through an initially submarine eruption, but has since then been reduced in size by coastal erosion.
