Calheta de Nesquim with Igreja de São Sebastião

WI_api025.jpg

According to legend, the name of this small village in the SE part of Pico goes back to the dog Nesquim, who saved three survivors of a sunken ship by guiding them to the small bay (calheta). The church was consecrated in 1856, but an earlier church building had existed since the 15th century.
