Montanha do Pico | Summit area with Piquinho

WI_api057.jpg

View from the vicinity of Lagoa do Capitão in SW direction to the upper part of Montanha do Pico with the summit cone Piquinho (2351 m). This stratovolcano is the highest mountain of the Azores and of Portugal. It reaches above the planetary boundary layer, so that the summit area is much less humid than the rest of the island. The sheer drop at the N end of the summit crater Pico Alto indicates huge landsliding in the past.
