Western slope of the stratovolcano Montanha do Pico, view from approx. 1500 m asl. all the way up to the rim of the summit crater. The shrubland with large plants of Erica azorica gradually diminishes to a heathland with increasing elevation. The stakes indicate the trail leading up the mountain.
