View from Pico da Cruz in NW direction to the caldera of Sete Cidades. This volcanic landscape in the NW part of São Miguel has formed through a long and complex history of mainly explosive eruptions, leaving behind an assemblage of craters and lakes - such as Lagoa Azul - enclosed in one roundish caldera of 5 km diameter.
