This karstified valley at the Austrian-German border, the name of which literally means "God's field", represents a syncline in massive Cretaceous limestone of the Helvetic zone. Representing the sediments once deposited at the N shelf of the Tethys ocean, this system is more commonly exposed in Switzerland.
