Cushions of Azorella compacta (llareta) colonizing the sandy lower slopes leading down to the Salar de Olaroz. Through its extremely compact growth form, this species creates its own microclimate, and is therefore well adapted to the harsh environmental conditions prevailing on the Altiplano.
