This cairn on the main square of Amaicha del Valle represents an apacheta, a place of worship for the Pachamama, the Mother Earth in the Andean cosmovision. The NW part of Argentina is characterized by a strong influence of the Andean culture, whereas the rest of the country is dominated by European and North American concepts of life.
