Diocletian's Palace was built in the outgoing 3rd century, intended as the retirement residence of the emperor. It represented a fortress rather than a palace, and approx. half of the historic centre of Split is comprised within its walls. This clock tower is located at the Iron Gate, providing access to the complex from the W side.
