By the mid 2020s, Vukovar still has not fully recovered from the effects of the Croatian War of Independence in the early 1990s. The Radnički dom (Workers' Hall), built in 1897, was heavily damaged. Afterwards, the central square has been redesigned with a mixture of old and new elements.
