This photo shows the edge of the rift valley (the footpath running along the bottom of a fault) forming the Mid Atlantic Ridge, separating the Eurasian and North American plates. The site is also of great cultural importance, as the Icelandic parliament (Alþingi) was located here from 930 to approx. 1800.
