View from Brennisteinsalda in SE direction over the area of Landmannalaugar, located at the N side of Torfajökull, a major scene of Pleistocene acidic volcanism. The bright rhyolitic rocks lend a colourful appearance to this landscape. Bláhnúkur (940 m), mainly made of pitchstone, dominates the centre of the scene. The dark rocks on the left side form Laugahraun, a 15th century lava field. They consist of obsidian, like pitchstone a volcanic glass of acidic material, despite its dark colour.
