This lava field, with a moss-covered surface of almost 600 square kilometres maybe the largest in the World, goes back to the Laki eruption of 1783 and 1784. View in NE direction to the former coastal cliffs with Lómagnúpur (764 m) and to the tongue of Skeiðarárjökull.
