Siglufjörður, the N-most town of Iceland, used to be an important centre of herring fisheries and industry. Women known as "herring girls" played an important role in this business, and their hard work played an important role in the empowerment of women. This memorial, honoring the "herring girls" and their work, was inaugurated in 2023.
