Mjóifjörður (literally meaning "narrow fjord") once represented one of those branches of Ísafjarðardjúp making the drive on Road 61 (in the foreground) to Ísafjörður a lengthy journey. A system of dams and a bridge (shown in the background) was completed in 2009, shortening the way by more than 35 km.
