Álftafjörður is another example of those branches of Ísafjarðardjúp making the drive on Road 61 to Ísafjörður a lengthy journey. The village of Súðavík appears on the right side. This type of fjord landscape is typical for those parts of Iceland where volcanic activity has ceased long ago and Pleistocene glaciers have carved the terrain.
