This tunnel, also known as Göng undir Breiðadals-og-Botnsheiði, has eased traffic in the Westfjords since 1996. It has three branches with a total length of 9120 m. Two branches are one-lane with passing places. The tunnel avoids the Breiðadalsheiði pass, which is frequently closed during winter. This photo shows the entrance at Botnsdalur.
