View from the Baldur ferry on its way from Flatey to Stykkishólmur in SW direction to Snæfellsjökull (1446 m) at the W end of the Snæfellsnes peninsula, at a distance of approx. 60 km from the viewpoint. This glacier-covered stratovolcano last erupted approx. 1800 years ago. It was considered the highest mountain of Iceland for many centuries and has become famous as the entry point to the centre of the Earth in Jule Verne's novel of 1864 and the related movie of 1959.
