View from Tabor over the centre of Steyr in SW direction. The history of this town at the confluence of the rivers Enns and Steyr is tightly connected to processing and trading of the iron ore mined at Erzberg. Starting from the early middle ages, Steyr was the centre of the Eisenwurzen industrial region. Various historic buildings give evidence of its former wealth. In the 20th and the early 21st century, the car industry has gained an important role as an employer in town.
