This stone arch bridge dates back to the Ottoman era. The structure shown here was built around 1800, after a severe flood had badly damaged its predecessor. The bridge has become famous as, at its N end, Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria was assassinated by Gavrilo Princip in 1914. This event finally triggered World War I.
