View from Puy de Dôme over the Plateau des Dômes and across the Limagne Fault in E direction to the Limagne with Clermont-Ferrand and to the Monts du Forez (1631 m). The whole area forms part of the European Cenozoic Rift System, the Limagne plain representing a graben between the horsts of Plateau des Dômes and Monts du Forez. Note the small white spot in the far left central background: it does not represent a cloud, but the summit area of Mont Blanc (4806 m) at a distance of 300 km.
