View from Puy de Crouel over Clermont-Ferrand in W direction. The Plateau des Dômes, a tectonic horst, rises behind the escarpment of the Limagne Fault. The lava dome Puy de Dôme (1465 m) dominates the background. This highest summit of the Chaîne des Puys formed approx. 10700 years ago due to an eruption of Peléan type.
