View from Île de la Barthelasse across the Rhône in SE direction. Palais des Papes was the residence of six popes in the period between 1335 and 1430. It is one of the most important medieval Gothic buildings in Europe and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995, together with the Pont Saint-Bénézet and the historic centre.
