Panoramic view from Berat Castle in S direction to Goricë. This district was built in a narrow section of the Osum Valley, where the river cuts through a ridge. Mangalem was built on the other side of the river (not visible in this photo), both protected by the Berat Castle. The historic districts of Berat display a particular architecture reflecting the different eras of the long history of the town. The modern parts of Berat have developed in the wider valley sections upstream (left side) and downstream.
