Byllis, located on a plateau above the Vjosë Valley, was an ancient fortified city. Founded around 350 BCE, it evolved into a major Illyrian settlement. Later, the place experienced some Greek influence and decline, and then became a Roman colony and bishopric. The site has been declared an Archaeological Park in 2003.
