The central square of Tiranë is considered the cultural, economic, and political centre of Albania. It started to evolve in the early 20th century and was completed by the late 1930s. However, the appearance of Skanderbeg Square was modified several times afterwards, in order to serve as an appropriate symbol for the political system in place.
