This picture shows one of the numerous rivers transporting the large amount of water captured by the W slopes of the Southern Alps back to the Tasman Sea. The Southern Alps are covered in fresh snow after some precipitation the day and night before. In general, this area is extremely humid: air masses are driven towards the mountain slopes by the Westerlies after having travelled over the ocean for thousands of kilometres.
