The rock slope in the centre of this photo, in front of Doldenhorn (3638 m) is known as Spitze Stei ("pointed stone"). It is highly unstable and has repeatedly produced small rock falls. In a worst-case-scenario, a total mass of 15 million cubic metres could collapse. Even though the resulting rock avalanche would not impact nearby Oeschinensee, it could put the village of Kandersteg at risk. Also smaller landslides, which are much more likely, could result in process chains affecting downstrean areas.
