Late afternoon view in SE direction to Gross Muttenhorn (3099 m) in the background. The Hotel Belvedere represents a Grand Hotel of the Belle-Époque era of tourism. It lost much of its importance in the second half of the 20th Century due to the retreat of the Rhone Glacier and the shorter travel times, making overnight stays at this location obsolete. The hotel was closed in the 1980s, re-opened in the 1990s, and closed again in 2015, two years after this photo had been taken.
