Late afternoon view from Arc de Triomphe in southeastern direction. The former name of this square was Place de l'Étoile (Square of the Star), describing the radial arrangement of the 12 avenues meeting here. This photo shows five of them, which are from left to right: Avenue Hoche, Avenue de Friedland, Avenue des Champs-Élysées, Avenue Marceau, and Avenue d'Iéna. The Sacré-Cœur Basilica, the Eiffel Tower, and the Montparnasse Tower can be seen in the background.
