La Défense represents a modern CBD with many tall buildings, which has been developed since the 1950s outside of the limits of the city of Paris. The 111 m high Grande Arche was constructed in the 1980s in one line with the Arc de Triomphe and the Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel.
