East Rift Zone | Lava flow with active lava tube

The Pu'u 'Ō'ō cone in the East Rift Zone of the shield volcano of Kīlauea has been developing and continuously erupting since 1983, having produced some cubic kilometres of lava covering more than 100 square kilometres. Even when the surface has cooled down and consolidated, lava flows may remain active beneath for some time.
