The ground shaking of the Wenchuan Earthquake of May 12, 2008 led to major destruction in the town of Beichuan by itself. However, additional damage was caused by two co-seismic landslides and a subsequent debris flow. Finally, the site was declared a memorial park and the town was rebuilt in another place.
