This Orthodox church with its nine domes, prime example of Russian Renaissance architecture and a symbol of the country, was mainly built in the 16th century and completed in 1683. It has served as a museum since Soviet times, when religious activities were suppressed. Orthodox Christian services were resumed in the 1990s.
