Uretiti Beach | Tumbleweeds

WI_nz015a.jpg

The strategy of releasing part of its above-ground structure (tumbleweed, containing the propagules) helps plants in windy, poorly vegetated environments such as deserts or beaches to spread around. The propagules are released as soon as a favourable (e.g., moist) place is reached.
