Valle Mendoza | Laguna de los Horcones
WI_ar291a.jpg Valle Mendoza | Túnel Cristo RedentorThumbnailsHorcones and Cerro Aconcagua

The mountain in the background of this photograph consists of a sequence of sedimentary rocks, including limestone (the clearly defined bright layer in the left centre) and gypsum (the bright zones in the upper centre). View from Horcones in NW direction to America's highest mountain (6962 m). The hummocky surface in the foreground of the photograph is most probably the deposit of a prehistoric rock avalanche.
