The mountain in the background of this photograph consists of a sequence of sedimentary rocks, including limestone (the clearly defined bright layer in the left centre) and gypsum (the bright zones in the upper centre). The hummocky surface in the foreground of the photo is most probably the deposit of a prehistoric rock avalanche.
