The residential areas of Valparaíso extend far into the coastal hills. The area shown on this photograph was reconstructed after the Great Fire of Valparaíso (12-16 April 2014). The fire devastated an area of 800 hectares between 12 and 16 April 2014. Fifteen fatalities were confirmed, 2500 houses destroyed and 11,000 people left homeless.
