The residential areas of Valparaíso extend far into the coastal hills. The area shown on this photograph was reconstructed after the Great Fire of Valparaíso. The fire devastated an area of 800 hectares between 12 and 16 April 2014. Fifteen fatalities were confirmed, 2500 houses destroyed, and 11,000 people left homeless.
