The dam retaining the lake on the left side most likely represents a landslide deposit (release area: the peak in the centre of the photo), even though it was earlier interpreted as a glacial deposit. Portillo is one of the most famous ski resorts of the S hemisphere. It hosted the Alpine World Ski Championships in 1966.
