Giant trucks are transporting the copper ore out of the largest open pit copper mine in the world, which occupies an area of 800 hectares (an elliptic shape of more than 4 km length and more than 2.5 km width). It reaches a maximum depth of more than 900 m and is probably one of the most voluminous man-made holes. Chuquicamata is one of the mines with the highest annual productions of copper. Together with other mines, it contributes significantly to Chile's GDP which strongly depends on the global copper price.
