Viewpoint near the National Road 27 between San Pedro de Atacama and Paso de Jama. Llamas are used as pack animals and for their meat throughout the Altiplano. They have been domesticated thousands of years ago and do not exist in the wild. The guanaco is thought to be the wild forefather of the llama. The 5920 m high stratovolcano Licancabur is shown in the background. It did not produce any notable eruptions for several hundreds of years.
