View downstream in NE direction. This suspension bridge crossing the Rivière de l'Est was opened for traffic in 1894. It is said that its span of 152 m was the longest worldwide. The bridge remained in service until 1979 when it was replaced by a new bridge (serving as the viewpoint for this image).
