Cratère Dolomieu has assumed its shape during a major eruption in 2007. Emptying of the magma chamber beneath led to a massive collapse resulting in a caldera depth of 350 m. The smaller, but older Cratère Bory (2632 m) is seen in the left central background. The fume behind Cratère Dolomieu indicates an eruption which had started 30 minutes before the photograph was taken.
