Piton de la Fournaise | Cratères Bory and Dolomieu

WI_re128.jpg

View towards north. The smaller Cratère Bory (2632 m, left centre) is older than the more prominent Cratère Dolomieu (right side) which has assumed its shape during a major eruption in 2007. Emptying of the magma chamber beneath led to a massive collapse resulting in a caldera with a depth of 350 m. An ongoing eruption and the caldera Enclos Fouqué are seen in the background.
