Vicuñas are the wild foremothers of the alpacas. They often live in wetlands in the Altiplano, which are usually found along streams such as the Río de Juana shown in this image. Known as vegas or bofedales, they form green spots in the otherwise arid puna landscape. View in NE direction to Volcán Tatio in the background.
