The town of Nikel, located in the very NW of the Kola Peninsula, is strongly linked to nickel mining and processing. It was founded in 1936, when the area belonged to Finland, but became part of the Soviet Union in 1940. This bust, depicting Karl Marx, has survived the collapse of the societal system propagated by the famous philosopher.
