Whakaari / White Island | Panorama of the crater lake

White Island is the only active marine volcano of New Zealand. It rises approx. 320 m above sea level, but 1600 m above the sea floor. Besides a number of eruptions, this stratovolcano has displayed post-volcanic activities almost continuously since it was discovered by Captain Cook in 1769. The main crater shown in the picture is the result of an eruptive phase in the period 1981 - 1983.
