The Lesser Antilles form a heterogeneous group of islands between the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. Some of them are of volcanic origin, others form limestone plateaus. Their societies are strongly shaped by British, French, Dutch, Spanish, and US influences, whereas most people descend from African slaves.
